The Benedikt & Friends world of figures displays the characteristic style of Rosemarie Benedikt, the Viennese artist and former Professor at the University of Applied Art in Vienna who already designed the successful "Animal Park" series of figures for Villeroy & Boch in the 1990s. At the centre of the new collection are the tomcat Benedikt, his wife Rosemarie and the two children Max and Lucy, all of whom display the style of subtle scurrility typical for Rosemarie Benedikt's works. Intentionally unconventional proportions and surprising constellations are combined with a dash of naivety. In her work Rosemarie Benedikt does not rely on superficial humour, but on a brilliant variety of curious details which make the observer smile. Life itself serves as the theatrical superstructure for the series. Whether everyday life, work, recreation, hobbies or travel – all of these aspects are regarded through irony-filled glasses. To launch this series, Rosemarie Benedikt lets the likeable cat family sweat at sport, enjoy relaxation and dream of posh limos.
